I’m pleased to announce that I’m a coauthor (with Ernest J. Wilson, III and Michelle C. Forelle) of a chapter in this new book, The Communication Crisis in America, And How to Fix It, edited by Mark Lloyd and Lewis A. Friedland. The book “addresses the specific communication needs of the poor, racial/ethnic, women, immigrant communities, the disabled and other marginalized communities; discusses a new policy framework for incorporating social issues into the national communication debate; [and] draws together the analysis of critical information needs and policy and legal challenges in an ecological framework.” Our chapter focuses on the longstanding racial and gender disparities that persist across all media platforms, and discusses the exponential costs of exclusion in a network society.
